Gustave Flaubert

Gustave Flaubert was born in Rouen, Normandy, the 12th December 1821 in the lodging that went with the job in the Hotel Dieu, where his father was a doctor.

His complicated love life.
Elsa Schlesinger (platonic); Louise Colet; Béatrix Person.
His friendships with Guy de Maupassant, Louis Bouilhet, and Alfred Le Poittevin.

Gustave Flaubert was a learned wild guy, impassioned by letters and good style. A childhood friend of Alfred Le Poittevin, the brother of Laure de Maupassant, he discovered the literary gifts of Guy de Maupassant. Flaubert became the spiritual mentor of Maupassant. He trained him and died when Guy was ready to publish. Frequently the Maupassants and Georges Sand, Camille de Saint-Phale bumped into Flaubert from time to time in Normandy or at Nohant.

This room, with its independent entrance gives onto the patio or the dungeon. It is equipped with a jet spray shower and with chamber music.

Anna de Noailles

Anna de Noailles was born in Paris in 1876 a Bibesco-Brancovan princess of Romanian and Greek origin. She married the Count Mathieu de Noailles in 1879 from whom she separated in 1911. She had a son Anne-Jules born in 1900.

People she loved.
Maurice Barrès, the writer who left her in 1908 and broke up in 1909. They got together again in 1916. Charles Demange, the nephew of Maurice Barrès committed suicide in 1909, the outcome of his unfortunate love affairs. The poet Henri Franck.

Anna de Noailles was part of the young wild crowd alongside Liane de Pougy and Marcel Proust. Gentle and measured like Isadora Duncan, she illuminated the Domain St Clair with her poems and helped Flora to publish hers. Camille and the major appreciated her kindness.

The room, certainly the smallest in the house gives onto the wooded park and the swimming pool and from the bathroom gives onto the Normandy coast and its cliffs.
