His lovelife
Gisèle d’Estoc, Marie Kann, the countess Potocka, Hermine Lecomte du Nouy… Camille’s aunt, Elisabeth de Clères Noyset, was friends with Laure de Maupassant. Camille struck up a friendship with Laure and saw Guy and his brother Hervé grow up. She went on holiday to their house at Etretat with her son Albert. The war of 1870 broke out and Camille exiled herself to London for many years. In 1883 she returned on the invitation of Claude Monet.
The day of her arrival at Le Havre she discovered beside Monet, a Guy de Maupassant now become a man, he was 33 years old. Guy and Camille became inseparable. In 1889 whilst illness was racking him she decided to buy the Villa Saint Clair to be nearer to him.
A full view of the village, the sea and the cliffs of Etretat. It was a different show every evening, winter and summer alike. The lucky thing was to see the “Green Flash”.
