Henriette Rosine Bernard was born in Paris 23rd October 1844. She married Jacques Dalama in 1882, a young Greek morphine-addicted actor without talent who played at her side in the Dame aux Camélias. Her son Maurice born in 1864 would be the son of the Prince of Ligne.
Her love affairs were numerous to say the least: Charles Haas, Mounet-Sully, Gustave Doré…
Camille de Saint-Phale met Sarah when a young girl through the intermediary of the duke of Morny. She befriended this child who as he grew up became a confirmed artist.
Camille and Sarah became closer and closer and considered themselves as sisters. They often met each other in Paris and at other times in London. As from when Camille became owner of the Villa St Clair, Sarah would from time to time honour this holiday place with her presence.
